Belmont Instrument Corporation, founded in 1980, has developed some of the most sophisticated and reliable devices in fluid management and cardiac assist. Today Belmont’s medical devices are used in more than 35,000 procedures annually. All of our products, both the electromechanical systems and sterile single use sets, are proudly made in the USA at our facility in Billerica, Massachusetts.
Continuous Innovation
For the first 20 years we developed advanced innovative cardiac assist devices including the smallest and lightest IABP ever sold, the 62 lb. portable balloon pump distributed by C.R. Bard as the Bard TransAct™ IABP. This device had advanced features which were unique to the industry.
In the late 90's we developed the first truly automated IABP. This unit featured automatic selection of signal source, trigger mode and assist timing and automatic control of pumped volume Distributed by Arrow International as the AutoCAT™ IABP, this system represented a quantum leap in IABP technology.
Rapid Infusion/ Blood Warming
In January 1999, we introduced The Belmont® Rapid Infuser, for fluid replacement consequent to massive blood loss in surgery and trauma. The Belmont® Rapid Infuser incorporates a precise, variable speed fluid pump, and a new type of fluid heater, which heats instantly, without a water bath. The system also incorporates advanced features such as out-of-fluid and air bubble detection, and efficient, automatic air removal. With real time line pressure monitoring, the system pump automatically slows or stops if the pressure gets too high. For massive transfusion cases an optional 3-liter reservoir greatly simplifies operation.
In 2005 we introduced The Belmont® buddy™ Fluid Warmer, representing a new standard in warming for routine surgical cases. The Belmont® buddy™ system has a very low priming volume, and features close-to-the patient warming with dry heat. It incorporates a large surface area microporous membrane for effective venting of air from crystalloid solutions, and will alert the use to unsafe or non-optimal conditions such as high temperature, no heat, if fluid flow through the set stops, or the set is full of air. All of this is contained in a compact package.
The Belmont® buddy plus™ , introduced in 2007, features adaptations making it suitable for air evacuation and transport. Tested under extreme conditions, The Belmont® buddy plus™delivers warmed fluids to a patient from trauma site to hospital. The latest buddy, The Belmont® buddy lite™ is a revolution in en route care. This lightweight, portable fluid warmer ensures patients arrive warm.
The Belmont® Hyperthermia Pump, our latest innovation (2008), safely delivers hyperthermic therapy, combining advanced heating technology with an efficient mechanical system to provide a high speed, simple and safe system for rapid circulation of warmed fluids in several therapeutic applications..
